Objective:
To gain employment working with computers and people in a friendly, innovative environment.
Overview:
I am currently an Unix System Administrator at Washtenaw Community College. My responsibilities include administrating a variety of workstations and servers running various operating systems, as well as managing a small number of part-time employees. I also perform many web programming tasks.
System Administration:
I am familiar with installing/maintaining/upgrading various OS's, including
Solaris,
Linux,
OpenBSD,
and others.
We use these systems to maintain WCC's websites, e-mail servers, Unix Classes, DNS, FTP, RADIUS, and other services.
My hardware experience is quite broad; I have worked on 486 laptops, Sun Enterprise 5000's, and everything in between. I enjoy building systems from scratch, such as my personal dual PIII-550 server and, most recently, the new M-Net Server (M-Net claims to be "the First Public Access Unix System"), and I also enjoy spec'ing out systems, such as our newest Sun Enterprise 450 and Dell 4400.
Web Programming:
I have been programming for the web for over 6.45 years, having first started with my experimental HTML-to-VRML Converter (note: VRML plug-in required).
Much of my current job consists of adding dynamic and functional qualities to WCC's website, such as the Online Application for Admission, the Full-Time Faculty and Staff Search, and the WCC Student Desktop (a website maintenance interface to assist faculty in placing course material on the web; you may login using "sample" as both the password and login, though full functionality is not given).
My tools of the trade are Perl, PHP, Javascript, SQL, HTML, and others.
Other:
My skillset is greater than programming and sysadmin'ing. I am also an avid photographer and I enjoy Ray-tracing: sample 1, sample 2.
