Step One: Joe brings me old macs - Mac II, Mac IIsi, Mac IIcx A later project will make use of these cases; i'm thinking of placing x86 hardware inside the mac case (the IIsi is a rather nice case).

Step Two: reap the old macs for parts.
You can see a few motherboards, video cards, power supply boards, ram chips and other parts.

Step Three: plan out design. This design is fractal-inspired. The smaller triangles are arranged into the positions where the larger triangles would be; that is, 3 of the smaller triangles are in the same place as 1 of the larger triangles. One side of a larger triangle is 1.6 times as large as the side of a smaller triangle. This causes the 3 smaller triangles to bend upwards when forced into the same space as a larger triangle.

Step Four: cut circuit boards into shapes desired. Note the semisphere covered in epoxy - it will pop up in a later project.

Step Five: glue parts together. This one was a bit difficult to glue together. i cut a cardboard jig to hold the parts together, but putting it all together was still rather a pain.

Step Six: the product shot. Since i often give these away, i take a photo of each one i make. |
